HoloMarket
HoloMarket was Neotica Corporation's proprietary digital application storefront and Mobile Device Management (MDM) portal for Android. Operating as an alternative to the public Google Play Store, HoloMarket was distributed exclusively to Neotica's partner devices and corporate clients as part of the "Neotica Enterprise Mobility Suite."
History
In early 2011, observing the growing fragmentation and security vulnerabilities within the public Android Market, Neotica Corporation pivoted its core business model away from consumer applications to and migrated some of their products to focus entirely on B2B enterprise solutions, but some applications are still available to the public consumers.
Neotica successfully pitched HoloMarket to regional logistics firms, medical providers, and government agencies as a highly secure, curated ecosystem. Rather than competing directly with Google in the consumer space, Neotica partnered with OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) to produce "Neotica-Certified" devices. These devices shipped with a custom-made hardened Android fork, tailored to the client requests.
At its peak in 2013, HoloMarket managed over 2 million endpoint devices across Southeast Asia. However, the introduction of Google's own "Android for Work" (later Android Enterprise) program severely undercut Neotica's proprietary model. The public did not hear much about Neotica's subsequent collapse in 2015, as their operations were strictly business-to-business; corporate clients were quietly transitioned to modern MDM solutions, and the proprietary hardware was largely liquidated or destroyed.
Features
- Curated App Deployment: The enterprise version has an IT-controlled, curated custom build for selected partners and clients; also stripped most public version functionality. There's also a public version that doesn't include most customs features and deployments that exist in the enterprise version.
- Unified billing via the Neotica Wallet system
- Automatic updates delivered over the Neotica push notification relay
Technical Notes
All HoloMarket clients authenticate against market-auth.neotica.id during startup. Since 2015, the handshake servers have been offline, preventing listing retrieval, purchase verification, and license validation. Offline .apk sideload dumps remain functional on devices still holding cached licenses.
